“We raise the bar” - Marco M.
We raise the bar
Having several years of experience in yoga teacher training, I can testify without a shadow of a doubt to the downward trend regarding the spiritual-psychophysical preparation (an awkward word, but it aims to convey the genuine inseparability of the three “spaces”) of future teachers. This isn’t a criticism but simply an observation; regardless, I honor the courage to put oneself out there, even when starting from shaky foundations. Unfortunately, though, this trend reflects a society that is increasingly helpless and passive.
On average, people aren’t able to stay still for 15 minutes in a seated position without the sick need to open their eyes, look around, and shift position. Pascal said, “All the misery of men comes from one thing alone: not knowing how to stay still in a room.” I wonder what he would write if he witnessed our present time.
The movements I see during lessons look like they're coming from a geriatric ward, even when “performed” by young people. The addiction to comfort has taken root, and the idea of sweating and working hard is seen as something crazy and inappropriate.
As a school, we will never accept this. Anyone who comes to us and signs up for our courses won't find teachers lowering the bar to make it easier. On the contrary, we push everyone to overcome even higher bars.
