I noticed that there is no sense of sharing, mutual respect, and the ability to live together in harmony, especially during a retreat, and instead of appreciating the magnificent gift we are receiving, everything becomes the hint to ask for more, to be never satisfied.

I ask myself more and more if the intention of many Yoga practitioners – and mostly all those wishing to teach this discipline – begin this path because they really feel it in themselves or by pure vanity. Having been in daily contact with many of them I realize that the essence of Yoga has been lost in translation. Anyone can learn concepts by heart in order to pass an exam or practice the most difficult asana. Unfortunately, being and feel yogi is often trashed in a bin.

I noticed that there is no sense of sharing, mutual respect, and the ability to live together in harmony, especially during a retreat, and instead of appreciating the magnificent gift we are receiving, everything becomes the hint to ask for more, to be never satisfied.
The ego – better, being selfish – becomes acute, “me and I” is the password and above all I perceive this sense of bottom competition added to the desire for popularity. Yes, because at the certificate handover which btw is the starting point – and not the end of it all – and mostly a piece of paper, we all suddenly become teachers, all experts, all genes and the first thing to do? A selfie to be posted on the preferred social network, in the preferred pose, with a modified photo thanks to ad hoc applications so that everyone can see , because in the end, a “like” is much more appealing than the inner search. The “here and now” has become functional to the number of followers, but the essence of this concept so profound and yet so simple seems to have been lost in the sea of egocentricism.
I do not know how many of the people I met in the past months will finally teach, and sincerely, I ask myself how many will continue in their path of knowledge. To those who do not feel yoga in its many facets, I strongly recommend to subscribe to a fitness studio in order to obtain a sculpted body. The world is already invaded by meaningless “Namaste”.
